This documentary, which evolved from a 3 minute film, details some of the life and cars of Porschephile Magnus Walker. Directed by Tamir Moscovici, this beautifully captured short film, shot in and around the art district area of Los Angeles and the twisty roads of Malibu canyon, is a great short film to watch, even if you are not into old Porsche 911s.
From the films’ description: ” URBAN OUTLAW is a portrait of Magnus Walker, the rebel Porsche customizer who turned a hobby into an obsession, and an obsession into a successful business. From a workshop in downtown Los Angeles, Magnus obsessively harvests fragments from donor 911s, grafting them onto vintage frames to create one-off automobiles with the spirit of Ferdinand Porsche but an ethos entirely his own.”
Moscovici’s original 3 minute had enough interest and attention about Magnus and his passion for everything 911, that it evolved into this 30-minute film. The latter version of Urban Outlaw even debuted at the Raindance Film Festival in London.

#23 Porsche 917K 1970 Le Mans Winner, replica. (image © 2012 Victor Varela)
This car is a regular at Irvine’s Cars and Coffee. It is a replica of the ‘Salzburg’ Porsche 917 as driven to overall victory by Hans Herrmann in the 1970 Le Mans 24 Hour.
Early in the race, most of the Ferrari 512 entrants eliminated each other in a shunt. The two Porsche factory teams, Gulf-Wyer and Porsche Salzburg, continued to battle each other, but all Wyer cars were out after 12 hours. At the end it was the red and white #23 917K of Porsche Salzburg, with the standard 4.5 litre engine, carefully driven by Stuttgart’s own Hans Herrmann and Englishman Richard Attwood through the pouring rain, that finally scored the first overall win at Le Mans, in a wet race that saw only seven ranked finishers.
This car is always surrounded by admirers as it is truly a beautiful recreation of a historic Le Mans winning Porsche.

Cars & Coffee – Irvine, Is the weekly Saturday morning gathering in Irvine, California where hundreds of proud drivers congregate to kick tires and have a cup of coffee. There is something for everyone to enjoy; classics, exotics, concepts, hot rods, motorcycles and motor-sport. And it’s all free, minus the coffee of course.
