Tribute to ‘World’s Greatest Road Race’ Planned for August

The North America Mille Miglia Tribute will make its inaugural trek through California Aug. 14 through 17.

Stratus Media Group, Inc., a live entertainment company with exclusive rights to the Mille Miglia in North America, is producing the tribute to the 82-year-old "world's greatest road race." The tribute is designed to bring the emotions of the Italian race to a picturesque 1,000-mile California coast route through Carmel, Santa Barbara and Napa Valley, concluding in Monterey.

The Mille Miglia North American Tribute, or MMNAT, will be held in advance of the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance and Historic Automotive weekend, which draws thousands of spectators and automobile aficionados in addition to hundreds of private collectors. Entry fees begin at $8,000 per vehicle. The MMNAT is expected to receive thousands of applications, but will only accept the 300 vehicles, nationally and internationally manufactured between 1927 and 1957, meeting the standards set by the Italian Mille Miglia.

"The Mille Miglia is the classic car race that has become a synonym of legends and dreams across the world," said Alessandro Casali, president of the Mille Miglia. "But it is, above all, an event of incredible historic value. It is an emotional testimonial to the history of automobiles which today has also become one of the most authentic symbols of the 'Made in Italy' theme.”

It is a unique event that unites history, tradition, and prestige, Casali said. "It is so special that the Italian government is using it as a symbol of our country, a testimonial of excellence in its missions abroad," he said.

Jim Gianopulos, chief executive officer of 20th Century Fox Films and driver in the 2010 Italian Mille Miglia, said "There is nothing like the Mille Miglia. So much so, that if you asked me, do you want to go to the moon or do another Mille Miglia, I would have no problem deciding. Give me another Mille Miglia as soon as you can!"

Stratus Media Group has been sublicensed to produce the Mille Miglia North America Tribute by the MAC Group, MEET Communications and San Remo Rally- licensers of the Automobile Club of Brescia- the operator of the Original Mille Miglia in Italy.

Awesome article man. People nowadays forget what driving was really about. Villeneuve is synonymous with "best car control ever". Add to that what a decent bloke he was... Hmm one can only imagine Senna vs Villeneuve.

How I would love to have lived in that parallel universe.
